Our devotion continues our theme on Balance in the Christian life with this subject, “A Balanced Christian Life Will Involve Boldness.” My text is Philippians 4:13, where we read “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (KJV) Here, the apostle Paul brings to the table a “can do” attitude. Many times, this can be viewed as “I’m unstoppable!” or “Bring it on, there’s nothing that I can’t handle!” I believe Paul displays boldness here, but this boldness is not centered on Paul, but rather it is focusing on the strength of his Lord and Savior! This is an amazing attitude considering that Paul is a prisoner of Rome, confined in a prison cell and not knowing whether he will be released or executed! In plainer words, Paul is just resting himself in the strength of the will of his Lord! A balanced Christian life will manifest this boldness to do God’s will and live in the strength of God’s perfect will.
Let me say that it’s not always easy to do the will of God. When that’s the case, you have to have the boldness or courage, to do it anyway! Many times the perfect will of God will create questions in your heart. Many times the perfect will of God will cause weeping because of separations from people you love with all your heart. Many times the perfect will of God will literally tear your heart out, and you will entertain thoughts like, “I don’t think I CAN DO what God wants me to do!” Please notice our text, “I CAN DO all things THROUGH Christ, which STRENGTHENETH me.” A balanced Christian life will acknowledge the fears associated with doing the will of God at times, but along with that, there will be the boldness that comes from a child-like trust to rest in the strength that God will give as we do His will. If someone tells you that doing God’s will is “easy” they are lying to you through their teeth! The will of God is NOT always easy, but it is always BEST!
