Today, our devotion continues Balance in the Christian life with a devotion entitled, “A Balanced Christian Life Will Involve Loving.” My text is John 15:12-14, where we see “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (KJV) Our text gives us a command from our Lord that is designed to help us maintain a Biblical balance as a Christian. “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” Do we truly love our brothers and sisters in Christ, or do we run them down, criticize them and consider our self to be a “cut-above” them? The apostle John tells us in his first epistle that those who say that they have a proper relationship with the Lord Jesus and yet, harbors hatred in their heart for their brother, is a liar! 1 John 4:20 “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” (KJV)
We show love for our brothers and sisters in Christ by manifesting a genuine, selfless concern for their well-being, both physically and spiritually. We are not only to love fellow believers, but we are to love the unsaved as well. We are to be faithful to witness to the unsaved about the love of God that paid their sin debt on Calvary’s cross. We are to love this world to the point that we live our life different from the way they live, so that they will see a difference in our life. Too many believers today are “different” on the Lord’s Day and through the week you couldn’t tell they’re any different from the unsaved world around them. Jesus Christ is our perfect example of selfless, sacrificial love, and if we truly love the unsaved, we will live a balanced Christian life, showing them what means to be a Christian. God help us to live a life of love for our brethren and the unsaved that is acceptable to our Savior!
