Our devotion today is “Are we Thankful?” In I Chronicles 23, we are given some of the duties of the Levites in their service of the Tabernacle and verse 30 stands out to me in this Thanksgiving Season. “And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;” (KJV)
How often do we thank God for sight? I recently read of a group of visitors at a summer resort and they had watched a sunset from a balcony. A heavy-set ordinary looking man lingered to watch until the last glow had faded. One observant lady wondered about this and asked the man, “You certainly did enjoy that sunset. Are you an artist?” He replied, “No ma’am, I’m a plumber, and with a slow grin forming, he responded, But I was blind for five years.” He really knew what it would mean to thank and praise the Lord every morning and every evening for the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
We are at times guilty of taking so many things for granted in our life. The day we stop taking these things for granted is the day they are gone. Just like this man who watched this beautiful sunset and was in awe of its splendor, we should stop and take inventory of the manifold blessings from God in our life because we have so much to be thankful for!
