Today’s devotion continues to look at our Lord’s message to the church in Pergamos. My text is Revelation 2:13, where we read, “I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.” (KJV) To this church, the Lord Jesus reveals, “I KNOW thy works!” This implies that He not only knows the intentions of His people, but He also knows what is actually being done for Him and He knows what is being done for self or selfish motives. Please be sure that when we stand before the Lord to give account, He will reveal what was truly done for Him and also what we labored so hard to hide or misrepresent. Many times in the church, what appears on the surface to be done for God’s glory is actually being done for self-glory.
The Lord also reveals to the church in Pergamos that He KNOWS where Satan’s seat is in the church. The point I want to make here is that Satan has the power to “slip in” to any church. He has the power to adapt and influence in the most seductive and deceptive ways. He can slip in as a subtle serpent or He can approach a ministry as a wolf stalking its prey. Most of the time, he takes over the priorities of the homes of the church and then he sets his seat in the church because the church is made up of homes and families. The Lord KNOWS all of this about us and it is so important that we remain on our guard and those inroads that Satan has made in our homes, our hearts and our lives, we remove him. Only then will our churches throw Satan’s seat out in the street and we’ll hold fast our Lord’s Name and have the testimony that our church is not married to this ungodly world!
