Our devotion today is “Our Position in Christ.” My text is Philippians 3:8-9 where we see, “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” (KJV) Our position in Christ is the basis of our acceptance into the Family of God.
The New Birth is the starting point if anyone is to have a relationship with Christ, as John 3:7 states, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”(KJV) Please understand that this is not talking about religion, church membership, baptism or any other “religious” action that one might consider to be his or her “salvation.” If we are to be “found in Him” then that can be accomplished in only one way, and that is repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ on Calvary’s cross and Christ’s bodily resurrection on that third and appointed day.
The perfect righteousness of Christ is given to a person the moment they believe what the Word of God declares about Jesus Christ being the only way of salvation. In John 14:6, we have this truth brought out, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (KJV) Is your position “in Christ?” Our best works, our good intentions, and all the religion in the world cannot place anyone “in Christ.” Someone once said, “All that I have is Jesus, but then again, He’s all that I need!”
