Today’s devotion concludes, “The Importance in John Seeing the Voice of God” and I want to bring to your heart that in seeing the Voice of God, it will bring “Growth into Spiritual Maturity.” My text is Revelation 1:19-20, where we read “Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter; The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.” (KJV) In vs. 19, the Lord gives us the outline of the entire book of the Revelation. In Ch. 1, we see the things which John had seen, his glorified Savior. In Ch. 2-3, we see the things which are, or the Church Age which will end at the Rapture. In Ch. 4-22, we see the things which shall be hereafter, or prophecy.
In vs. 20, the Lord gives understanding concerning the mystery that John saw. When we are given understanding in the scriptures, we will grow into spiritually. Spiritual maturity is possible when God’s messengers, or the seven stars in the right hand of our Lord, are seen in the light of scripture. These messengers are the pastors of the seven churches that are being written to by John. Every pastor needs a church family and every church family needs a pastor. Both must have the desire to honor their Lord and Savior, not themselves. Trouble comes when the pastor is the focus of the ministry or the church family is the focus of the ministry. Jesus Christ is to be the sole focus of every ministry! In this Dispensation of the Church Age, God works in and through the Local Church, so beware of any man or movement that degrades and belittles the authority of the scriptural local church! Such a man is a hireling, a wolf in sheep’s clothing and such a movement originated in the heart of Satan because Satan hates the Church that has the holy Son of God the focus of everything!
