Our devotion today focuses on “The Names of Our Lord” and my text is Isaiah 9:6. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (KJV) The first name the Holy Spirit moved on Isaiah to pen down was that Jesus Christ is “Wonderful!” With every passing day, society and religion have an ongoing effort to delegitimize the awe and wonder of the only begotten Son of God. This societal world and the religious world is not impressed with Jesus Christ and they are feverishly preparing for the coming antichrist.
But those that are saved and love their Lord with all their heart are filled with wonder and amazement at the grace that God has shown to us in Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ is wonderful in His birth. The Son of God willingly left heaven’s splendor and glory’s praises to come to this ungodly world. The darling Son of God willingly came to a world that didn’t want Him or love Him, but yet He came! Jesus Christ is wonderful in His life! Jesus Christ never sinned, never left an afflicted person hurting, never left a dead person dead, never turned away someone in need and never stopped loving anyone of Adam’s race!
Jesus Christ is wonderful in His death and resurrection! Jesus Christ didn’t die for His sin, because He had no sin. He died in the place of every sinner of time past, present, and future. Jesus paid the sin debt of Adam’s race on Calvary’s cross and on that appointed Sunday morning, He arose bodily from the grave never to die again. Jesus Christ made it possible for me to be saved by grace through faith in Him and Him alone. I will never enter the regions of the damned in Hell or the Lake of Fire because…”A wonderful Savior is Jesus my Lord! A wonderful Savior to me! He hideth my soul in the cleft of the rock, where rivers of pleasure I see!” Hallelujah, what a Savior!
