I want to continue this thought, “The Servant’s Place in Prophecy” and my text is Revelation 1:3, where we see, “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” (KJV) John saw that the servant of God CAN be Blessed! In relation to our text, there is a blessing offered to those who read, study and heed the words of this Book of Revelation, but an application should also be made to the entire Word of God. You and I will never go wrong by diligently reading and studying God’s precious Word!
Back to the text, God first offers a blessing to those who “readeth” these words. This means an on-going, consistent reading of God’s Word, which will stir our heart, sanitize our mind and educate us as students. Next, God offers to bless those who “hear” the words of this prophecy. This means that we listen attentively, that we seek God’s face for understanding and not rely on man’s opinions and preferences, and also that we are willing to receive it and act upon what we learn as the Holy Spirit shows us His Truth. Finally, God offers a blessing to those who “keep those things that are written therein.” To “keep” means that we protect this Word from loss by being unfaithful to God, that we prevent this Word from escaping our heart and mind because of inconsistency in reading it, and also that we preserve it for future generations by lifestyle teaching. Someone once said, “We teach a little by what we say. We teach a little more by what we do. But, we teach most by what we are.” I want this blessing! How about you?
